Many media organisations and institutions from around the world request to film on the University of Macau campus from time to time. Except for invited events, public events and approved interviews, media organisations, public bodies, non-profit organisations and commercial entities must submit an application and obtain permission from the university before filming on campus. They must also comply with the relevant regulations. The application process is as follows:

  1. Non-commercial filming (applicable only to media organisations, public bodies, and non-profit organisations):
    This category applies to filming for non-profit purposes, such as news coverage, documentaries, educational content, and public-interest initiatives. It does not apply to filming for commercial purposes, such as films, TV programmes, advertising, and brand promotion.

    If the filming is commissioned by a media organisation, public body or non-profit organisation, the commissioning body must submit an application to the UM Communications Office, along with proof of commission, via the following procedure:
    1. For filming inside buildings or on private roads on campus, please submit the application at least 10 working days in advance.
    2. For filming in public areas of the campus, please submit the application at least 3 working days in advance.
    3. For aerial filming, please submit the application at least 3 working days in advance, along with the Drone Operation Permit issued by the Civil Aviation Authority of the Macao SAR.
  1. Commercial filming: Please submit the application at least 30 calendar days in advance to the UM Campus Management and Development Office or other relevant units.

Filming Regulations

  1. The University of Macau is an institution dedicated to education and research. All filming activities must comply with campus management regulations, follow the instructions of university staff, respect social morality, and protect the campus environment, including plants and facilities. Filming activities must not disrupt the teaching, research, or daily life order at the university.
  2. All filming activities must comply with laws and regulations on the protection of portrait rights and privacy rights.
  3. The University of Macau reserves the right to decline any filming application without providing an explanation. In addition, the University of Macau reserves the right to revoke an approved application or require filming to stop immediately, along with the departure of the crew from the campus (in situations such as violations of regulations; safety concerns; disruption to teaching, research, or daily life order; or the occurrence of a major incident).
  4. The University of Macau’s interpretation of the above guidelines and related terms and conditions shall be final. The University of Macau reserves the right to amend, supplement, and update the above guidelines and related terms and conditions at any time; and the latest version shall prevail.
