Even though she had strong confidence in her abilities, Prof Lai was worried that she would have a hard time competing with the students in Canada. But to her relief, she found that her knowledge acquired in Macao allowed her to perform as well as the other students in her class. ‘I began to realise that students from Macao are just as good as students from elsewhere,’ says Prof Lai. ‘And that realisation gave me a lot of confidence.’ Prof Lai obtained her master’s degree in 1992 and decided to return to Macao. She joined UM in 1993. ‘The university felt like a home and I wanted to ् ᢷྯ Ⅼൢ ᕒ૨ ॺᰎ૭ נ ㌨ᖣ̭ ૭ಾₔᜪྭ 䢬㷑ᐑእ ㈫؝ቄ૭᪦㐢ǎ20˞☶ՉǍ̍ ڇ ͜ 䢬ྩ ૦͎̿ ˗べㄤᰎ㟑㐛зঁ ᑚ䢬 ˍ ܗ ㍦ᕔ⦨Нⅰ㷑ᐑእ֦ २ ̏נ Ꭸ ࿖˗˔ૣ २ಾǎ̜ ؝ቄ૭ྭ 䢬 ଡⅪέᰎ૭⚋ଡⅰ⣳؛˧˗㑋ᑜૣ २ ܒ ಾ䢬Ǘᰎ㟑֦ ⅰಾՐˍ㷞̏ ˗㎒ⷵ 䢬㐛⚋̜ ᆒྩ ૭ⅰ ؛ػ ǎǘ 1992䢬㷑ᐑእ⌄ₔᜪྭ ोϚ ो㩦ᰎ㟑䢬199 ؝Մᰎ૭ͭ ᐑǎǗ᳤् ૭ಾ⚋ᆒ೮ⅰი䢬 ܒ ᒿ̏ Ⴐ᳤ ᰎ 㟑ѵ̬ ㆱἄǎᆒⅰಾ⻐ᩪྩ ᔊ㦖䢬᳤् ૭ಾⅰ ۽ ㅐᆒ⦨ⁱⅪዺǎǘͭ ᐑⅰ ܒ ᒿ䢬ଡᑜ199 㟘ୣ ॺ㩿 ˬᐵ૭ಾᏽㅂ ژ 䢬2001־ቄ ژ 㷓ഔ䣀ϕ ݬ ლㅒᆔ्Ǚǚ Rose Lai: My Sense of Mission Urges Me to Return to UM ᐵ ] ῆ௭ğ ९ ] ვ⬷䢬㒲֯ ⁱㄿಾ㡕ዞϫ Chinese Text | Cravina Chongğ Photo | Ella Cheong, with some provided by the Honours College 1999ᰎ㟑ोᢵᒿ䢬ᰎ㟑૭ಾㄿಾ㡕㡕㟊Ǎ ࠇ ┷ύಾ㡕ᐑእ㷑ഒᢩ ॺᰎ૭ͭ ⢑ロຨǎ₢ଡ᳤् ሇ⮍ˍͮ ϓ ݪ ი ݶ ˍഭǗ೮ǘⅰიႌ䢬ॺ؝ቄ૭ۨྲ ⌄ ಾΦྭ ोᰎⅪൠ䢬͞ ಾ⡃㌨ͮ ो㩦⍹ᕐǎ Around the time of Macao’s handover to China in 1999, Prof Rose Neng Lai was a lecturer at the University of Macau (UM). She is currently the dean of UM's Honours College and a professor in the Faculty of Business Administration. Although Prof Lai was born and raised in Macao, she obtained her master’s degree in Canada. Urged by a sense of mission to contribute to Macao as a scholar, she made the decision to return to the city and joined UM, a place she calls home.
